One Last Hug: Three Days at Grief Camp, the documentary filmed at Camp Erin in Los Angeles won the Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program at the 2014 Creative Arts Emmys in Los Angeles this past Saturday, August 16.
The Los Angeles branch of Camp Erin, The Moyer Foundation’s National Bereavement Camp where the documentary was filmed, is run by OUR HOUSE, the grief support center founded by Tears and Tequila co-author Jo-Ann Lautman.
Directed by, Irene Taylor Brodsky and produced by Greg DeHart, One Last Hug follows the experience of grieving children at Camp Erin, a three-day grief camp for children who have experienced a death of a parent, sibling, or other beloved person. The HBO documentary movingly illuminates the effects of death and grief on children, unflinchingly revealing the emotional, inspiring journey of the children at the camp and the healing power of friendship and support. Under the guidance of grief professionals and volunteers, kids learn that their feelings are normal, and that by talking about them they can begin to heal.
